Blaine Groups

Friends of Blaine
• Independent, not-for-profit 501(c)3 composed of parent volunteers charged with raising money to support high-quality educational and artistic programming for all the students at Blaine (K-8th)
• Conduct fund-raising activities throughout the school year, including the Walk-a-thon, Gala event, & StudioB1 Art Gallery Show
• Provide grants that support the educational priorities of our school & parents ranging from science initiatives, foreign language, to technology and fine and performing arts
• Does not set or dictate curriculum

Parent/Teacher Association
• Not-for-profit 501(c)3 providing advocacy and communications for the entire Blaine community
• Connects to Board of Education through monthly PTA advisories and board meetings; connects with other CPS schools and ‘Raise Your Hand for Illinois’ to co-ordinate advocacy efforts
• Offers Parent Educational Programs (P.E.P. Talks)
• Supports extra-curricula efforts, i.e. Tea Dance, 8th Grade Graduation, Open House, Sports Clubs, Field Days; organizes parent volunteers for all events
• Supports environmental curriculum through PTA Green Team
• Funds activities through Box Tops & Labels program and retail affinity programs (igive.com, etc.)

Local School Council
• Governing board of the school and consists of six parents, two teachers, two community members and the principal of the school
• Elections are held every two years
• May conduct fund-raising activities, if it benefits the student population

Full-day Kindergarten Fund
• Independent 501(c)(3) not affiliated with any other school organization and does not receive funding from Friends of Blaine or the PTA.
• Defined as a community coming together to fiscally support the tradition of full-day kindergarten at Blaine, entirely run by parent volunteers.
• Capital Campaign
